The Residential Services Director oversees, develops, and directs all aspects of the residential operations. The Residential Services Director analyzes problems, evaluates results, implements changes, and makes recommendations to the Administrator.

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the Community.
  • Assures there is sufficient staff to provide appropriate residents care and services.
  • Makes rounds at beginning and end of shift to observe quality of care and evaluate resident responses.
  • Encourages customer service with all department heads and associates.
  • Promotes census development in conjunction with the marketing plan and goals established.
  • Performs and documents nursing assessments in conjunction with changes in clinical conditions and interventions; and may assist or process resident assessments.
  • Assesses resident progress toward the care plan and notifies the attending physician or other appropriate health care professional of findings.
  • Oversees and supports the sales process through receipt of deposit to move-in.
  • Collaborates with housekeeping and maintenance to assure that the accommodations are ready for move-in to promote a smooth transition for the resident.
  • Monitors sales and move-in performance continually for improvement opportunities.
  • Maintains an awareness of the relationship between profitability and census development.
  • Supports the community in maintaining model apartments for touring purposes, pending availability.
  • Communicates closely and supports the assessment process for Assisted Living.
  • During inspection surveys, accompanies surveyors, provides documentation requested, and answers questions courteously and appropriately.
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency regarding occupancy.
  • Regular, punctual attendance and ability to be flexible in work time; scheduling occasional evenings and weekends, as needed. Availability for on-call responsibilities.
  • Actively participates in daily morning meetings to alert appropriate staff members of projected move-ins, move- outs and appointments/tours.
  • Keeps the Administrator and Director of Nursing informed of the status of residents, staffing, and other related matters through verbal communication, written reports, or department meetings.
  • Addresses resident complaints daily to assure prompt follow-up by appropriate staff.
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, trains, and evaluates department heads
  • In conjunction with Administrator, trains and coordinates appropriate staff to serve as back-up in above functions whenever the staff is unavailable — out of the community, evenings, weekends, etc.
  • Provides assistance with new employee orientation regarding the inquiry/sales process and customer service.
  • Reviews Resident Council minutes and directs follow-up by department heads.
  • Prepares all reports as required. Oversees and monitors trends for inquiry, sales, move-in, move-outs, and closing rate.
  • Attends Medicare meetings of local CarDon skilled communities for referrals to assisted living, independent living or garden homes.
  • Performs frequent inspection tours of the building to observe appearance, cleanliness, safety, staff performance, and staff interactions with residents.
  • Communicates and cooperates with the Administrator about operational issues.
  • Promotes compliance with accident prevention procedures, safety rules, and safe work practices to prevent employee injury and illness and control worker’s compensation costs.
  • Assures staff is trained in fire and disaster policies and procedures, and that safety drills are conducted.
  • Monitors incidents and grievances daily to identify those defined reportable incidents by State rules and policy and federal requirements of participation, reports such occurrences to the Administrator, and notifies the appropriate authorities when required.
  • Interacts courteously with residents, family members, associates, visitors, vendors, business associates, and representatives of government agencies.
  • Serves as a member of the internal marketing team whose purpose is to enhance resident and community relations.
  • Monitors and stays within allotted operations budget.
  • Develops and implements special events and presentations targeted at community education, establishing and maintaining status for the community as the expert on senior housing in the community.
  • Exhibits excellent customer service skills at all times.
  • Other job duties as assigned.
  • Must be a licensed RN or LPN.
  • Must possess and demonstrate a high degree of leadership, organizational ability, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of residential long-term management, policies, budgeting, personnel management, and census development is required.
  • Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in a health-care related field is required.
  • Has knowledge of and special sensitivity to the needs of the aging and supports an aging in place philosophy.
  • Projects a confident, creditable professional image.
  • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, and has the ability to make presentations before small or large groups.
