Staff Development Coordinator/Infection Control RN

Staff Development:
- Matching the learning needs of nursing staff and non-nursing staff with educational programs designed to meet dynamic resident care demands.
- Assessing the educational needs of staff
- Coordinating training programs based on identified needs
- Ensuring that initial employee orientation and the annual in-service training program complies with state and federal guidelines.
- Combining strong clinical skills with a compassionate, engaged personality and a dedication to ensuring exceptional patient outcomes and a high degree of patient satisfaction.
- Demonstrating excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work well with a diverse population.
Infection Control:
- Manages all aspects of the Infection Control Program, chairs the Infection Control Committee, and maintains all related records required by regulations or company policies.
- Conducts infection control surveillance activities to record, investigate, control, and prevent infections in the community.
- Tracks the presence or development of pressure sores, UTI, and other infectious conditions; and reviews treatment interventions and results.
- Investigates nosocomial outbreaks of infections for causes, appropriate interventions, and prevention.
- In consultation with the DON, notifies appropriate authorities of an incident or outbreak of a reportable disease or infection when mandated by law.
- Tracks and logs infections in the community and prepares monthly/quarterly reports required.
- Monitors associate health requirements for timeliness, including at-hire physicals and TB testing.
- Monitors appropriate implementation of Food Borne Illness policy in the food services department.
- Periodically monitors nursing handwashing practices as infection control QA.
- Investigates all needlestick incidents reported and provides additional preventive training as required.
- Implements the Needlestick Policy according to OSHA requirements.
- Checks the environment on a continuous basis for odors, cleanliness, staff compliance with standards for separation of clean and soiled, and reports observations to appropriate department head(s).
- Monitors the inventory of biohazard disposal equipment / containers and the disposal of biohazard waste.
- Reports immediately any evidence of communicable disease to Director of Nursing and Administrator.
- Provides infection control orientation for all new hires as directed, which may include Universal Precautions, proper glove use and removal, handwashing protocols, information about HIV and Hepatitis B diseases, handling of biohazard materials, and separation of clean and soiled.
- Conducts annual Infection Control inservice meeting(s) to review and/or demonstrate appropriate work practices.
- Participates in the development and revision of infection control policies when required by changes in clinical practice standards, OSHA’s exposure control regulations, and other operational policies.
